NSW LAAs are NOT trained and qualified to survey the built environment for asbestos.
We have received numerous tenders to survey property portfolios for asbestos recently – all of them specifically requesting the surveys be completed by a Licensed Asbestos Assessor (LAA).
Here in NSW, LAAs are licensed for the following work ONLY (refer to SafeWork’s website for clarification) :
– air monitoring for Class A asbestos removal work
– clearance inspections for Class A asbestos removal work
– issuing clearance certificates in relation to Class A asbestos removal work
At JMBEC we understand that the correct combination of training, education and on-site experience is key to the development of a good surveyor. All of our surveyors carry the benchmark international qualification of either the P402 (Surveying and Sampling Strategies for Asbestos in Buildings (British Occupational Hygiene Society)) or the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) – Level 3 Certificate in Asbestos Surveying.
