Free sample testing for loose-fill asbestos is now available to homeowners in Hornsby Shire, following the recent discovery of loose-fill asbestos insulation in a home in the area. Owners of premises built before 1980 have until 1 August 2016 to register for free testing under the NSW Government’s Voluntary Purchase and Demolition Program.
Don’t ignore this opportunity. If you find out later that your home is affected, you may be responsible for the costly remediation required and in the future when selling your property, there will be a legal requirement for loose-fill asbestos to be disclosed in contracts for sale and listed on planning certificates.
There are 28 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in NSW identified as eligible for the Program.
Outside of an identified LGA there are other options for homeowners to have their homes tested for loose-fill asbestos.
