Another week goes by, another presentation on asbestos in soil.
I am not saying that we should ignore asbestos in soil – but when are we going to start talking about the state of registers within the built environment?
Poor asbestos management registers and /or a lack of demolition and refurbishment surveys present a much more prominent risk to people than asbestos fragments in soil.
Register created with poor survey and sampling methodologies, missing asbestos and without reference to ‘no access’ or ‘limited access’ areas are still too commonplace.
Is it a training issue? Inadequate legislation and guidance? Money?
At JMBEC we understand that the correct combination of training, education and on-site experience is key to the development of a good surveyor. All of our surveyors carry the benchmark international qualification of either the P402 (Surveying and Sampling Strategies for Asbestos in Buildings (British Occupational Hygiene Society)) or the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) – Level 3 Certificate in Asbestos Surveying.
Please get in touch if you would like a free review of your asbestos register data. You can email us on info@jmbec.com.au or call us on 02 8339 0312.
